Pearson Touche Review Review by admin, December 8, 2008
I know you most fixed gear riders are all steel mad, but at 14 st, I’m NOT the lightest guy out there so any advantage to weight and stiffness is welcome.
That said, 10 months ago i weighed 20st 12lb
4000 miles cycling later and an empty wallet means I can’t afford to get fat again even if wanted too

The Pearson Touche is not exactly a budget choice in the world of OTP fixed gear bikes, so it’s worth knowing where your money is going. Three words: frame, frame, and frame!
The frame (plus carbon front fork) is really excellent – stiff, light, smooth riding. It looks like it uses reasonably standard alu tubing plus horizontal track ends, put together with impeccably smooth welds, with a pretty classic road geometry (albeit with a slightly stretched wheelbase). It has fixtures and clearances for mudguards and a rear rack, which make it an excellent all-purpose, all-year bike. (And proper mudguard clearances too – you can certainly run mudguards with 25mm tyres, very probably 28mm too). It handles pretty sharply, but is stable enough when loaded up at the back. Excellent – it’s everything you could want from a frame that’s designed to be used and abused in the real-world, rather than just admired.
Otherwise, Pearson built it up using good value components into a pretty sensible complete bike. That said, they build them to order so you can spec it however you like. The wheels I got with mine are good and solid Ambrosios – again, neither bling nor super-light, just immensely practical. The crankset leaves a little to be desired (the chainrings look really cheap and I saw a nasty photo of a failure on the web) but there can be easily changed or re-specced. Bars and stem are good quality ITMs. The Tekro brakes are solid, the Cane Creek levers really good and comfortable to hold on the hoods. Generally, all good stuff.
All in all, a very good package centered around an excellent frame.
