Cannondale Capo Review Review by admin, December 8, 2008

As a tough city hack bike, the Capo will serve you well. The frame is understated with a tough paint job and a good lock should keep it safe in the city. Hopping up and down curbs and weaving through traffic is where this bike is at. The initial bedding in of the spokes and crunchy freewheel soon settled down as the Capo found its place on the streets. The simple setup and lack of things to go wrong should make it an incredibly reliable ride.

excellent frame which is light, stiff, responsive and quick. however the package is let down by lacklustre components which effectively kill the ride. at the very least you’ll want to upgrade to a lighter wheelset and lighter, stiffer cranks. you’ll also want to ride it fixed, as the stock bike is a freewheel. given that cannondale are now marketing their old caad5 track frame as a lifestyle accoutrement, re-branded as the “capo”, i don’t know why they don’t just spec it with a better wheelset, single brake and a riser bar. the price seems to have dropped a bit to the £600 mark, but the upgrades will probably cost you another couple of hundred so i’m not sure how good value it is. from my experience i got a great bike out of it, but not cheaply.
